11 Smart Steps for Mobile Security
- Look for the lock. Don't send personal information unless you see a lock and "https://" in the address bar of your browser.
- Don't jailbreak your phone! Use apps from only your devices official app store (i.e., Google Play, AppStore).
- Don't talk to strangers! Or at least proceed cautiously on unsolicited messages. And don't touch the links!
- Avoid texting or emailing personal information.
- Keep sensitive information in secured files. Yes, there's an app for that.
- Lock your device. Set it to lock after timing out, too.

- Take advantage of free malware apps and patches.
- Use a Find-Your-Phone tool in case you lose your phone.
- Use a remote wipe/lock app in case your phone is stolen.
- Erase your data. Before returning, repairing, or selling your device, wipe the data from it. Contact your service provider for best practices around this.
One extra tip for Android users:
Make sure you're using Android 3.0 or later. This is the first version that incorporates file system encryption.
